Overview:
Akagera National Park is found in the Northeastern part of the country (Rwanda) sharing the borderline with Tanzania covers an area of over 1,122Km2. It is named after the Akagera River which flows along its Eastern boundary feeding into a number of lakes with the largest being Ihema. Its rich blend of biodiversity ranging from papyrus swamps, forest fringed lakes, savanna plains and rolling highlands form a good habitant to a miscellany of great game including; Sitatungas, Oribis, Bushbucks, Elephants and Buffalos among others as well as bird variety such as the sought after prehistoric looking Shoebill Stork and Primates like Vervets, Secretive Blue Monkey among others.

Airport arrival and pick-up
Welcome to the Land of a Thousand hills! On the day of arrival, your guide will be waiting for you at Kigali International Airport. Receive a warm welcome and then you are transferred to the hotel in Kigali where you will have your overnight stay. Depending on time of arrival, you may do a city tour around Kigali visiting places like the Genocide memorial centre and/or Presidential Palace museum.
Accommodation: Kigali Serena hotel (luxury)/ Gorillas Golf Hotel (midrange)/ Tea House Kigali (basic). Bed & Breakfast.
Day 01: Departure from Kigali to Akagera National Park [Approximately 3hours drive]
Have breakfast early enough at your overnight accommodation, meet with the guide, receive briefing about the tour and embark on the journey, enjoying the pleasant countryside through Rwamagara- Rwinkwavu. Have lunch at the booked lodge and later in the afternoon you can head for a cultural palate [only if there is a minimum of 3 people] this presents opportune moments to try the Imigongo paintings, Sampling of Honey on the comb, dance and many more cultural experiences.
Accommodation: Ruzizi Tented lodge (luxury)/ Akagera Game lodge (midrange)/ Camping (basic). Meal Arrangement: Full Board [FB]
Day 02: Game drive and boat trip
Begin with a delightful breakfast at the lodge, proceed for a stunning half day game drive in search of the gem of wildlife roaming the golden savannas of Rwanda; anticipate to see the Roan Antelopes, Giraffes, Elephants, and Sable among others. Later in the afternoon, have lunch and then be part of another exquisite experience as you partake in an epic sunset boat trip on Lake Ihamba with pleasant display of marine and birdlife including Hippopotamuses, Crocodiles, and if lucky the Elusive Shoebill Stork and many others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 03: Bird watching on Boat trip or Game drive and return to Kigali
Have an early breakfast at the lodge and head for another boat experience in the morning, for an astonishing display of birdlife. The park hosts over 500bird species, you should anticipate to see; the Ross’ Turaco, Crested Barbet, Black-headed Gonolek and many more. These are also opportune moments to add on your game count as you spot more mammals through the plains or along the shoreline as they come to breakfast on the fresh pastures. Have lunch at the lodge and later checkout and embark on your drive back to Kigali and be dropped off to your hotel or at the Airport for your flight back home.
