Health & Safety - what you need to know

Your health is a non-negotiable requirement for travel. For a wonderful stay and hassle-free travel, it is essential to take appropriate health and medical precautions before and during your journey.

While a passport and visa may grant you entry to a country, safeguarding your health ensures your journey is safe and pleasant. Proactive health planning is critical yet often overlooked by travelers as a travel requirement.

Weeks before departure, research your destination's health landscape. A primary step is to consult a travel health specialist, clinic, or your doctor. Discuss routine vaccinations and ask about destination-specific immunizations. Many countries require proof of certain vaccinations upon entry. For example, proof of Yellow Fever vaccination is mandatory in most African and South American countries. Understand the host country's health risks and whether you need prior vaccines, such as hepatitis A and B, typhoid, bilharzia, meningitis, and more.

As we start planning your travels, our in-house travel advisors will provide you with reliable general health

information about your destination and guidance on staying healthy. You can also always check health advisories and websites. You need to understand the potential health risks, from food- and waterborne illnesses to mosquito-borne diseases like malaria or dengue. If you have pre-existing medical conditions,

it’s important to notify your travel advisor in advance so assistance or special treatment can be provided if needed.

It’s crucial to get travel insurance and confirm it covers medical emergencies and evacuation, as overseas healthcare costs can be exorbitant. Some destinations also require proof of travel health insurance for emergencies. It’s equally important to carry a basic first-aid kit or medical kit with any prescriptions or medications you need (we strongly advise having them in generic form; for special medicines, you may be required to have accompanying medical documents from certified clinics). Pack enough supplies for the duration of your trip, along with a doctor’s note if necessary. Some medications may not be readily available or permitted in certain countries, so research restrictions beforehand.

Below is a quick health and safety checklist to help you plan your travels well.

  • You should always ensure you’re healthy before your planned trip or vacation.
  • Check destination health requirements (mandatory vaccinations, health certificates)
  • Get mandatory vaccines (such as yellow fever) and recommended vaccines (typhoid, hepatitis, and meningitis). Check the destination's health landscape to plan accordingly.
  • Carry an International Certificate of Vaccination (if required)
  • Pack prescriptions with the original labels and a doctor’s note. Some medications may be restricted or difficult to obtain, especially in remote destinations.

  • Bring a basic first-aid or medical kit, such as painkillers, bandages, antiseptic, and rehydration salts
  • Confirm that your travel health insurance covers medical emergencies and evacuation
  • Carry insect repellent (with DEET) when traveling to malaria- or dengue-prone areas
  • When water safety is uncertain, drink only bottled or filtered water, practice good hygiene, and stay hydrated. Be mindful of what you eat and where you stay.
  • Maintain hygiene: use hand sanitizer, wipes, and masks as needed
  • Know emergency contacts (local hospitals, embassy, insurance hotline). Our visitors will always have a local contact for assistance throughout the destination.

By making proper health preparations and taking appropriate precautions while traveling, you can enjoy your vacation and adventure. These steps help you explore the host destination with peace of mind and confidence. Prioritizing these measures protects not only your well-being but also ensures your adventure is memorable for all the right reasons.
