Uganda – a country with the tagline the “Pearl of Africa,” where shades of green and golden yellow offer remarkable adventures in both tropical jungles and open savannas. It is a fairytale: you climb up, and at the end you find a whole new world, a country gifted by nature – whose rollercoaster scenery of the southwestern highlands gives way to the western savannas, shimmering idyllic lakes, and swamp-fringed zones known for their remarkable show and share of avian species and mammals. Whichever direction you take during your Uganda Safari, every few kilometers brings a new discovery, and in the few hours you spend, you’ll find out why Winston Churchill gave it its tagline.
The narrow dirt paths lead to and through its protected wildlife reserves and national parks, where visitors have opportunities to encounter the traditional African Big Five, with Queen Elizabeth National Park offering rare sightings of Africa’s tree-climbing lions. Some of its savanna parks offer otherworldly big-boat safari experiences – a voyage upstream the Nile in Murchison Falls takes you to one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls, while in Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo you cruise past schools of hippos, Nile crocs, and other aquatic wildlife, along with elephant herds seen along the banks.
The country has an immense share of primates. A trek through the tangled forest of Bwindi leads you to the world’s most prestigious and sought-after ape, the Mountain Gorilla, while Kibale Forest, regarded as the “primate capital of the world,” shelters more than 13 primate species, popular for its Chimpanzees and treks.
