Ticket Changes & Cancellations

Even the best-laid travel plans can change. Flight disruptions are an unfortunate reality of today’s travel, so

understanding airline ticket change policies is essential to trip preparation. Knowing what to expect can relieve stress and save you significant time and money. Flight tickets are the most important part of your upcoming journey (whether domestic, regional, or international), but travel plans may not always go as expected, whether due to voluntary or involuntary circumstances (within or beyond your control). Whatever the reason, you may need to alter your flight ticket, and knowing what to expect makes the process smoother.

Airlines typically allow ticket changes, but the first and most critical step is to review your fare's rules before

booking. For tickets booked through us, we will always advise you of the fare conditions before confirmation. Airlines offer various ticket tiers, from restrictive basic economy to flexible premium fares. Key details to note

include the change-fee policy, whether the fare is eligible for changes (and under what circumstances), and whether you’ll receive a travel credit or must pay a fare difference. Under normal circumstances, the cheaper the fare, the more restrictive it is, and vice versa.

Flexible or refundable tickets usually permit changes with little to no fees, whereas promotional or low-cost fares tend to have tighter restrictions or higher penalties. Additionally, most airlines will charge the difference in fare if the new ticket costs more than the original.

“Expert point of view – it's always very important to buy your ticket from a trusted travel agent or airline. Tickets bought online, mostly through third-party sites, may only be good for travel, and if you need to buy online, you should consider buying it from the airline's official site”.

  • Please note that most airlines do not change or refund online tickets purchased through third-party sites

If you need to make a change, act quickly. The first step is to contact us or the airline directly if you booked through them. You’ll need to provide a booking reference or ticket number; then advise your new travel dates or any changes you would like to make (a change can be anything relating to date, routing, or flight). Providing these details makes the process smoother. Changes are typically subject to the availability of flights and seats on the new desired flight.

Note:

There are 2 types of changes.

  • Voluntary – this applies when a client decides to make adjustments to an originally issued flight ticket. So, in such cases, change fees and fare rules apply. Most airlines specify the change fee and the no-show fee (if applicable). If a change happens when the original class (RBD) is unavailable, a fare difference always applies

  • Involuntary – this occurs when an airline cancels a flight or changes its schedule due to unforeseen circumstances. In this case, a passenger is usually offered the option to rebook at no extra fee or receive a full refund.

Procedures and costs vary widely. Some airlines have eliminated change fees for most domestic fares (be sure to confirm), but you’ll still be responsible for any increase in the new flight's price. International and basic economy tickets often still carry hefty change or cancellation fees, sometimes costing more than the original ticket, subject to availability.

Circumstances for changes also matter. For voluntary changes, some carriers offer more leniency for documented emergencies, such as illness or bereavement (most often involving an immediate family member). We strongly recommend that you buy your ticket from an agent; we will always advise you on the fare conditions. We also recommend that you always purchase travel insurance; a comprehensive policy can reimburse non-refundable costs due to covered unforeseen events.

Therefore, before you book your ticket, consider this quick guide to ticket changes, or contact us directly for

assistance.

  • Review your fare rules and confirm the flexibility of your ticket.
  • Know the applicable costs, i.e., change fees, no-show fees, and cancellation costs. In most cases, fare differences will apply at the time of reissue when the initial class (RBD) is not available.
  • Act early. Contact us or the airline as soon as you need to change the flight – some costs, such as no-show fees, may be avoided
  • Have your details ready, including the booking/ticket reference and any desired changes

  • Use official channels to book your flight: a travel agent or the airline’s website. Agents are better positioned to advise and may be available 24/7. If you’re using a third-party site, be sure it allows changes.
  • Review policies for no-shows; missing a flight may limit change options
  • Keep confirmation notes. Always remember to save your updated itinerary and e-ticket after the changes.

As agents, we’re in a better position to save you the hassle that comes with ticket and flight changes. The cheapest ticket may be your preference, but it may not be the best option for your journey.
